On 29th May 2022 after being unwell for 4 weeks, Ava was taken to her local hospital for blood tests to see why she was so poorly. “I just knew in my gut my girl wasn’t right” said Ava's mum Jackie. After the blood tests came back that all was okay, Jackie questioned the doctors and pressed that they scanned her.
Just 20 minutes after the scan Jackie got the devastating news that Ava had severe pressure in her brain, that doctor's thought could be caused by a tumour. As a result of this Ava was blue lighted upto a specialst childrens hospital in Glasgow, where they were greeted with a full team.
“Ava seen so many amazing doctors from the minute we went in” reflects Jackie, but her neurologist was the best, he didn’t mess around with his words and was straight to the point,”which I liked” said Jackie,”he took just me into a room and showed me the scan, and I had to sign forms giving them permission to operate”.The next day Ava was taken down to theatre.”The doctor told me that if I hadn't pressed for the scan my baby would have not been here within a week it was that serious”.
After a week waiting on biopsy results Ava’s family were given the devastating news that Ava had a high grade glioblastoma tumour in her brain that was inoperable and uncurable,”my whole world collapsed” said Jackie.
Sadly after a brave, courageous journey,Ava lost her fight on the 16/04/24.
As a charity we stepped in to support the family in the summer of 2024 we teamed up with another charity whom provided the family with a short break to provide some time away with Ava’s siblings we provided the family with a grant to help with spending money.
One year on we have kept in contact with the family and have provided a further grant to help the family go on some much needed respite as they try to process their grief and a new journey.
We always aim to help families through their bereavement process and on an ongoing basis as no family should be left to go this journey alone.
